What will your wedding dress cost once alterations and accessories are included? Compare buying routes and build a total budget before deciding.

How much does a wedding dress cost in Australia?

Your wedding dress budget needs to cover more than the gown on the rail. Compare the quoted gown price, the work needed to fit it, and anything you want to wear with it before deciding which option is affordable for you.

What is the average wedding dress cost in Australia?

Easy Weddings’ wedding dress cost article, updated in May 2025, reports a national average of $2,502 and a New South Wales average of $2,919. These are its published survey figures, not 2026 prices or a quote from Emerald Bridal. An average also combines different buying routes; it cannot tell you what your chosen designer gown or alterations will cost.

See the Easy Weddings wedding dress cost figures and survey context. Use them as background, then compare current written quotes for the gowns you are considering.

For wider planning context, read Australian wedding statistics and trends. Keep that context separate from the quote for your own gown.

What do wedding dresses cost at Emerald Bridal?

Our published price guidance starts around $2,500 AUD, with most gowns described as $2,500–$5,000. Existing off-the-rack samples are offered at reduced prices. That is general boutique guidance, not a promise that every gown fits that range; confirm the price and included items for your shortlist with our team.

Allow separately for alterations

Emerald Bridal does not offer on-site alterations. We can recommend seamstresses across Sydney; ask the seamstress to confirm the scope, quote and fitting schedule for your gown.

A hem, support adjustment, bustle, lining change and substantial resizing are different jobs. Ask what the quote covers, how many fittings are planned, and whether lace, beading or structural changes affect the work. Do not assume an alteration cost from a photograph or a size label.

Build your total budget

  • Gown: record the current quoted price and whether you are buying the inspected sample or placing a new order.
  • Fit work: obtain an alteration assessment and quote for that gown before relying on a sample saving.
  • Other items: include the shoes, underwear, veil or accessories you actually plan to buy, plus any confirmed cleaning or repair work.
  • Additional services: check delivery, agreed rush work or customisation fees rather than assuming they are included.

For illustration only: a $1,800 sample plus a $550 alteration quote and $150 of accessories totals $2,500. Those amounts are not Emerald prices or a seamstress quote. Replace each figure with your own confirmed costs; a lower gown price does not automatically mean a lower total.

Questions to ask before paying a deposit

  • Which gown and size does this quote cover, and is it a sample or a new order?
  • What is included, what is separate, and when is each payment due?
  • Which alteration changes have been assessed, and by whom?
  • What delivery or collection date is confirmed, and what terms apply if plans change?
